To break a partisan deadlock at the FCC, Chairman Kevin Martin appears willing to allow a $17.6 billion carve-up of Adelphia by Comcast and Time Warner, if they agree to carry the regional sports networks of satellite carriers and rival pay-providers. DirecTV and EchoStar have complained about being unable to offer Comcast SportsNet in Philadelphia. And two senators have expressed worry that the deal would give Comcast and Time Warner the market power to control access to popular regional sports networks.
