Calling an initial $61 million verdict in an employment discrimination case “excessive,” a California judge whittled down a jury award against Federal Express and one of its managers to a modest $12.4 million. Judge Stephen Dombrink stated concern that the evidence failed to support the initial verdict in the case, in which two Lebanese-American FedEx drivers accused a manager of racial discrimination and harassment. “The harassment was mostly just offensive name-calling,” Dombrink noted.
