Ford Motor Co. has told regulators that it plans to enhance the roof strength of some pickups and sport utility vehicles beyond standards proposed last year by the government. Ford’s director of automotive safety wrote the NHTSA that 11 vehicles are due to have roofs able to withstand a force greater than 2.5 times the vehicle weight. A Ford spokesman said the letter had “nothing to do with litigation.” The company has faced several multimillion-dollar verdicts in vehicle rollover lawsuits in recent years.
