Sammy Chavez, a Los Alamos National Laboratory worker who was injured after being exposed to hydrochloric acid fumes, is suing the lab and his former supervisor. According to the lawsuit, the supervisor briefed Chavez and his co-worker on cleaning an etching machine with hydrochloric acid but did not discuss hazards or step-by-step details of the work. Chavez contends the exposure caused “permanent and disabling” lung damage, which requires that he “almost constantly be on an oxygen tank.”
