The growing scandal over the backdating of executive stock options claimed a second local general counsel Tuesday when software maker McAfee Inc. said it had dismissed GC Kent Roberts because of stock option “improprieties” in 2000. Nationwide, the government has approached about 24 companies so far concerning backdated options grants. And a possible bicoastal tussle between federal prosecutors is brewing, as a wave of subpoenas have been issued from three U.S. Attorney’s Offices and two SEC offices.
