In an outpouring of opposition, New Jersey physicians’ societies are
asking a judge to reject a proposed settlement of a class action suit
accusing Horizon Blue Cross of abusive reimbursement practices. The
opponents complain that the agreement, which calls for reforms but no
monetary damages, is merely a vehicle to enrich the class action
plaintiffs firm in the case, Roseland, N.J.’s Nagel Rice & Mazie. The
settlement includes a $6.5 million fee to the firm, paid by Horizon.
