Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Arlen Specter warned government enforcement officials and the Senate Banking Committee during a hearing Wednesday to get serious about investigating market manipulation by the $1.5 trillion hedge fund industry. Concerns about hedge fund fraud returned to the spotlight after a federal appeals court last week vacated an SEC rule requiring registration of hedge fund managers and periodic exams of their books. “We’re dealing with a matter of great importance,” Specter said.
